So… 2 months! It feels like both yesterday and years ago that I started as the intern! What a whirlwind it’s been! It’s been great to work with so many of you to help make CEYC bigger and better than before! Here’s a quick round up of what I’ve been up to over the last 2 months:
One of the first things I did as I got my head around all the files and information we have about CEYC is to make sure we have a timeline of all the topics we’ve discussed since 2003 so that we can build on our past discussions! Here it is! Thanks to Elliot it looks all shiny and amazing online!
We’ve also had the opportunity to redefine the roles of our Core Group which looks to be quite exciting! At our residential weekend, we’ve elected the remaining members needed for a whole team to take CEYC forward for 2017! The newly defined roles include some of our traditional ones too: Chair; Secretary; Worship Coordinator; Communications Coordinator; Ecumenical, Interfaith and Secular Organisations Coordinator (points for a catchier name!); Blog and Events Coordinator; and of course, our three Synod Representatives and Secular organisations representative who work hard to support Core Group and represent CEYC at the British Youth Council and other Secular councils and at General Synod! Head over to our Team Page from February to meet the new team!
One of my favourite parts of the role over the last two months has been the people I get to meet! I’ve met with various organisations with the hope that CEYC will be able to build links with these and support one another through these connections! Watch this space for possible future opportunities linking with the Three Faiths Forum and with the Methodist Youth President and his team! It’s amazing how much of our work overlaps with so many different organisations. I’m looking forward to building links so that CEYC can have a great network of contacts!
Two BIG things have happened since my first blog too! We held our Worship and Witness weekend and our new website member’s area launched! These have been super exciting!
We were faced with the challenge of better interacting with our members and those who don’t get the chance to be one of our diocesan reps. We really want to reach out to every young person in the Church of England so we can achieve our aims to Represent, Enrich and Engage! Our membership area is hopefully a solution! Now, for the first time, you can sign up to be part of CEYC, to get exclusive content, feed into our polls, ask questions to synod and even blog for us! If you’re one of ‘those born earlier’ you can still engage with CEYC! We want anyone aged 25 or older with a passion for hearing the voice of young people and a desire to be challenged to sign up to our Friend’s membership! Here you can ask questions, submit polls and canvass the ideas of our members so that young people can talk into the topics your working with! Head over to our Member’s Area to join us!
A couple of weekends ago we had our annual full council meeting. This year the theme was Worship and Witness – becoming more Christ-like. I found it really strange being at a CEYC event and not being a rep or part of Core Group! I’ve been part of CEYC so long and now I was still able to be there but couldn’t speak into the debates or discussions. I really enjoyed listening to the discussions! It was great to hear the passion and energy of the reps and the commitments to strive to be more Christ-like throughout the weekend! Check out Jo’s blog post for more about what we got up to!
2 months in 6 paragraphs! Madness! I can’t wait to see what the next two months bring! I’m looking forward to working closely with Hannah and the new Core Group to make sure that CEYC has all the background documents in place to let it work smoothly! I can’t wait to start getting our teeth into the April event and what the theme might be! Keep an eye on our Future events page for details as the come up! I hope you all keep me on my toes with my biggest challenge – the website! I’m a massive techno-ludite and get so confused when things don’t work properly on computers so I hope I can keep the website working and not break it! As always, if you want to get in touch or ask any questions please email me!
