Historic Churches PetitionThe petition is for the Government to provide partial coverage of the costs of restoring Historic churches - after all, they are a national heritage, and an important part of our history. The Government, through various means, already funds many things of a similar strain, whilst Churches are currently left solely to the Church and charities. Add your name to the petition here: http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/Preservation/
Anybody have any photos?... preferably of November's weekend? Nathan and I (and Ruth) would be very very grateful!
Background material now available for November meetingFull background information is now available for the CEYC meeting from 24th to 26th November. If you are a CEYC member, you should have received this already, but if not it is available for download here. We look forward to seeing you at CEYC! November MeetingOur next meeting is fast approaching and in the next week or so you should be recieving all the background info. There seems to be some confusion over dates and venues so just to clarify the meeting is a residential from Friday 24th (starting about 7) to Sunday 26th November (leaving after lunch) at High Leigh Conference Centre in Hoddesdon, Hertforshire. Hope this clarifies things for you any problems email me at chair@ceyc.org. Look forward to seeing you all soon Rachel Thinking about vocations?Hey all, If you're currently exploring your vocation or are just interested in finding out more then you may be interested in a day event in York for young people exploring their vocation in the Church. The Event is free and open to anyone in their teens or twenties. It will begin with an address by the Archbishop of York. Looks like a really good day and is aimed at people just beginning to explore their vocations. It will be held at St Oswald's Church York, Main Street, Fulford, York, YO10 4HT on Saturday 11th Nov from 11.00am-3.30pm and lunch is provided. It says to book a place by emailing samantha.foster7@btinternet.com. I'll probably be going and if you need to stay over I think my brother will be willing to put a couple of people up (he lives in York). Sorry it's a bit short notice, I was handed the flyer by my chaplain this morning! At the next CEYC meeting in November there will be a workshop on vocations, so you may want to start thinking about it. There will be some resources in the mailing, which you will all be recieving soon. Rich

Handbook now availableAn updated edition of the CEYC handbook for members is now available, both for reading online and in a single file suitable for downloading and printing out. We recommend you read the new version and print out a copy if possible. Many thanks to Philippa for revising the handbook. CEYC at General SynodCEYC was well-represented at the recent Group of Sessions of the General Synod, held in York from 7th to 11th July. As well as the official CEYC representatives (Tom, Tom and Laura) there were several CEYC members attending as part of the young adult observers group. During the Synod we organised a reception about CEYC, including a presentation by Rachel, and this was well received. Tom Pugh gave his maiden speech during the debate on women bishops, and you can listen to the first part of the debate here. (Tom's speech starts after 34 minutes and 40 seconds.) The motion carried by Synod is available on the CofE website along with the audio for the second half of the debate.
CEYC meets in WakefieldAbout 30 CEYC representatives and invited observers from across the country gathered in Wakefield yesterday for a day meeting of the Council. The two main items on the programme were a debate on the environment (an amended motion was passed, which will be available on here shortly) and a discussion on social issues including drugs, ASBOs, poverty and more. The Core Group had decided to restructure the action groups to create a more sustainable process, and yesterday was the first meeting of the new Church Issues, Community Issues and World Issues permanent action groups. To reflect this, the forums have been updated to provide a discussion area for each action group. |
