September 2011: Meeting with the British Youth Council
Report by Rebekah Vince
On the 13th of September, CEYC’s chair Kat and our National Youth Advisor Peter, along with our Secular Organisations Liaison Rebekah, attended a British Youth Council’s Young People of Faith meeting. Two representatives from the Methodist Youth – their president and Youth Development Officer – were also present, as well as a BYC board member from the Boys’ Brigade and two staff members from the British Youth Council.
A variety of topics were discussed including communication, BYC resources and the contribution and structure of CEYC and Methodist Youth. We arranged a Young People of Faith meeting for February, which seeks to facilitate an inter-faith discourse between the six principle religions.
After the meeting, Kat, Peter and Rebekah met to discuss and pray for God’s guidance in future steps. Although CEYC seeks to keep its autonomy and values, we hope to have a Christian voice on behalf of young people in the Church of England through attending British Young Council meetings to listen and to respond to current issues.

April 2010: Day Meeting in Liverpool
Youth Council members were all invited to attend the fifth day meeting, held in the splendid surrounds of Liverpool Cathedral.
Our discussions focussed on the rite of Confirmation. Group discussions took place in the morning, followed by participation in the cathedral's lunchtime Eucharist, and then our own feast of sandwiches and nibbles. Our findings and experience were then discussed in a debate on Confirmation in the afternoon, from which a small delegation would present our views to the Archbishops' Council.
We ended the day with a Bible study looking at Discipleship - the passages of the Gospels of Matthew, 5:43-48, and Mark, 8:31-37 - and a recessional act of worship in the Chapter House.

Relatives, friends from youth movements past, members of General Synod and senior staff of the Education Division all took part in the service, braving the bracing wind and rain on entry, and subsequently handed a slice of birthday cake on exit!

The year works in conjunction with the ‘YES Encounter Scheme’, run by Chichester Diocese, to provide a church placement and wider training throughout the time. So far, the year has been excellent, and both CEYC and Jen have gained much already!
